[by Kim, Song-Yi] Small SUV market in Korea is now more fiercely competitive than ever.
In November, about 4324 units of Hyundai Kona were sold, while Ssangyong sold 4298 units of Tivoli brand. Chevrolet Trax took third place as1401 units were sold, Kia’s Stonic and Renault Samsung’s QM3 recorded 1302 and 1098 sales respectively.
Kona, after it was launched in June, has been maintained its top place since August. But the gap in sales between Kona and Tivoli was decreased last month. In October, Kona was sold 100 units more than Tivoli, while last month, Only 20 units of Kona sold more.
Kia’s Stonic was pushed out to fourth, and Trax took the third place last month. In October, Kia sold 1089 units of Stonic and 959 units of Chevrolet Trax were sold.
Kia added Stonic gasoline model into the lineup in November, 30 for sales growth. Since Stonic gasoline has very competitive price range-cheaper than any other small gasoline SUVs sold in Korea-, it remains to be seen if Stonic can reclaim the third place.
Also, in this month, both Chevrolet and Renault Samsung announced to give discount and strengthen promotion to keep and expand sales volume.
