Mercedes’ inconsistent promotion led to customer dissatisfactionMercedes-Benz

[by Kim, Song-Yi] Some Mercedes-benz customers cancelled their contracts in May because of Mercedes Korea’s inconsistent promotion.

According to a number of Mercedes-Benz dealers in Korea, customers who placed their orders on E200 in April cancelled their contracts in May, since April promotion and May promotion are different. In Korea, discount on Mercedes new car only depends on the car’s delivery date, not based on the contract date.

In April, Mercedes offered up to $8,971 discount(including trade-in condition) on E200. However, in May, Mercedes reduced the scale of promotion and offered about $1,794 discount. The latter promotion was applied to customers whose cars would be delivered in May, even if they ordered in April to get the attractive promotion. Customers who get their cars in May could only receive the reduced promotion operated in May.

“Mercedes Korea noticed dealers that the size of promotion would be reduced to control E-class supply. There was no case like this before, which Mercedes shrunk promotion size such dramatically even the monthly promotion has been operated inconsistently,” an anonymous Mercedes-benz Korea dealer told to Dailycar.

As the discount was reduced last month, some customers who placed orders on E200 in April visited the dealerships to complain and even some lifted up their voices and used violet language to the dealers. One of dealers cancelled up to 10 contracts and this resulted in dealer’s bad performance.

According to Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association(KAIDA), Mercedes sold about 1,257 units of E200 in April, but E200 sales fell to 724 in May.

“stable supply and proper promotion are keys to gain customers’ trust and make profits. Some brands who only focus on quantitative growth will eventually lose customers’ confidence,” a person who knows well about Korean imported car market said.

Meanwhile, Mercedes sold 68,861 vehicles in Korea last year, which is the biggest annual performance it has achieved here.
